SPOILER
The main character in Xenosaga from what I have played thus far is named Shion Uzuki

Presumably, she is an ancestor of Citan. But Uzuki is not Citan's real last name, it's Hyuga Ricdeau. (I am sorry if I mispelled that) Opinions?

(Oops, I just found out there is a seperate Xenosaga intellectual section. Should this be moved? I'm not sure where it belongs now)

(Edit by Lillath: Replaced the code tag with a spoiler tag.)

I didn't know his last name was different, only his first. Where did you find that out? -- Anyway, it could have been used in "code" or had some sort of symbolism.

Although it'd be quite interesting to think that Citan Uzuki and Shion Uzuki were related in some way, I'd had to say this is only another one of those herrings gaming companies like to throw in. Sure, that's what everyone is going to think when they first take a glance at the game, but let's look at it this way:

SPOILER
After the crash of the Eldridge, there were no survivors except The Mother.  Therefore, all predecessing humans from that point forwards are ancestors of Miang; who created Cain & the Gazel Ministry.  There may be a slight chance that Abel & Elly procreated, but I'd most likely scratch that idea.  Also, as you said Uzuki was a fake name that Citan adopted.  There's good chances that it's a common name, such as "Smith" or whatnot.

QUOTE (Citan @ Feb 28 2003, 11:34)

It was mentioned once in the game. When you're in Krelian's lab I believe, and you're able to view all the character's statistics, such as ether ability, probability of acquiring an anima relic, etc. They also touch on it further in Perfect Works.

my guess is Shion will become legendary and Citan takes the name Uzuki as an ode to Shion or something like that.

I think they look very similar...I was gleaming brightly when I saw him...^_^; I loved Citan, he was a very bad man...and from what a friend has heard rumor wise....he's in the second game(it is just a rumor...so it might not be true) But, he might be playable in the second game. There was a supposed to be a fight scene with him and the boss from XS, but it was cut so it could be used in XS2. -_- I wanted to see him in action too. *pouts*

Hey i just thought of something. Hyuga R. can probaly be his Solarian name and he probaly changed it because he didn't want to be known as a decendant of Shion.

They also seem very similar in appearance and personality. But as Liliath says, all life on the Xenogears world was created by Deus. But how did he create them? It's not so far-fetched to assume that he had records of various people's DNA (why not?) and that he used that in creating the people. Shion is an obvious genius, he would want to preserve her genetic heritage for his own use.

Deus would have to pay cclose attention to the dna if he wantedto use theem as "parts"

they would have to be ccompatable, and therfore have specific dna structure

i honestly think it was more an eastern egg than anything... If Episode V does turn out to be a remake of Xenogears, it still is uncertain on how closely they will be following the origional storyline, it seems to me to be doubtful that they will follow it to the letter, so i say its a bit early on to say. but then again they could very well work in Shion as being an ancestor of Citan if they do change it up. so who knows? i still doubt it though

My guess is that Citan got his alias (or his fake name at least) from Jin Uzuki, Shion's brother. I mean, he looks like Citan, he uses a sword, his last name is Uzuki.

But how would he know about her? Even considering that he knew just about everything, there is no way he could have had knowledge of events that occured thousands of years before Deus's advent and population of the world.

Or maybe, Cain was created with some knowledge of what happened before the Eldridge crash, and he was the one who suggested that fake name to Hyuga.

Why would Deus give him knowledge that Cain could use against him? He wanted everyone to consider him to be God, he would not want them to know their was life before him.

Well, think about this: Abel was alive then, and Abel knew Cain. Perhaps Cain got the information from Abel, and passed it on to Hyuga for information on what to change his name to.

Think about this, Dues is divided into at least two systems: there's Merkava and then there's Miang. Miang created life and probably passed on knowledge of pre-Eldridge information. In Xenosaga, Zohar was around in our time, so the information from these terestial forms may have given Citan something to base his alias on. Just a though

I think all the theories being presented are possible in their own different ways, but the Dues (U-DO - ?) is the important variable we still don't know much about. I have no clue myself what's goin' on there, only the later episodes will tell us I think.

Yet, for now I don't believe there is a clear genetic connection between the two, though if Deus has a part of KOS-MOS in it, I figure KOS-MOS would have a record of Shion's DNA... yet, we really don't know if Shion's brother comes in contact with KOS-MOS or Deus... there's a lot of variables.

If anything, I theorize that the resemblence between Jin and Citan is mainly characterized through the idea that the whole story of Xenosaga is a long tale of continued cycles of pain and suffering. These continued cycles are embodied with the same type of people, trapped in the cycle, with an emphasis on ancestory.

Ancestory is btw one of the more important themes throughout Xenogears and Xenosaga (and/or the lack thereof). Kinda gets my confused myself crazy.gif

I'm not sure but isn't Uzuki the last name of Citan's wife...and wasn't she decended from Gasper? It would make sense that they used swords and are some how connected. =D

Shion's brother's name is Jin, like my name. Hey! Maybe I'm named after him. Anyway, it is still an unknown connection between Jin, Shion, and Citan. As I've been told by some, "It will be revealed in further episodes." Wait, this is at the XG? Is that right?

That might make sense, but I'm not sure. Anyone remember anything on the subject.

(Good point either way)

Remember, Deus created the people of the world according to his memories: that's why Fei and Elly keep popping back up. Their patterns resonated especially brightly, and in harmony with one another.

Citan, while probably not a direct relative of the Uzukis of Xenosaga, could be the manifestation of the Uzuki memories within Deus. KOS-MOS's possible future identity as Deus (or whatever other similar being is created for Xenosaga) lends further credence to this, as the Uzukis undoubtedly have great influence on her awakening consciousness.

I just noticed today that Citan's Festive wind is a lot like Shion's Lunar blade. As it ends with the moon and the Japanese Characters placed on the side. I understand about the easter egg stuff but I mean it seems they are putting a lot in if there is no connection with shion or citan.

There is a 10,000 year time difference between Xenosaga and Xenogears, right? Genetically, that is enough time for everyone in Xenogears to be the ancestor of everyone in Xenosaga. Unless there is massive inbreeding, bloodlines will become massively diffused over the course of a few centuries. Changed that to millenia, and the entire concept of ancestory becomes laughable. Plus, considering that the Contact was the only original human to service the Eldridge crash, it is highly unlikely that any genes from the time of Xenosaga survive to the time of Xenogears.

Genes have nothing to do with it. 10,000 years would have negated any sets of Uzuki traits through genetic mixing anyway.

What the link could have been was a reincarnation of sorts... through Deus's memory system. If KOS-MOS turns out to be Deus or a part thereof, then the powerful influence the Uzuki family had over her early life would make their reincarnation into places of importance rather likely.

Ok I agree that most personal traits would have been eliminated but its still possible that there genes carried. And come on as good a theory as it is I really doubt that they are going to be as light headed as to start a reincarnation idea there not idiots.Like with fei and lacan look how it turned out we all thought it was reicarnation untill they explained and and boy did I feel stupid.

That is a great theory but I want to elaborate on that theory. I think it's possible that KOS-MOS' awakened form to be Mother. and as mother she has taken the data of Jin... who, as Mother has given birth to Citan's first incarnation... who was reincarnated into Hyuga... and some faint memory made him think to use Uzuki.

Another theory me and a friend are throwing around.... It's rumored that Whilhelm and chaos are part of the wave existance and if Whilhelm has testaments then it is possible that chaos makes Jin a testament. here is the link to the topic we're disscussing.
The Citan topic

Take this as it may, but this is something I actually believe in.

Otaku_nut was right.

While Citan's surname was Riccdeau, his wife's last name was in fact Uzuki. She was also Gasper's daughter and she was the person who taught Citan how to use a sword as well.

Why the change?

SPOILER
He changed his birthname to his wife's maiden name when he first came to Lahan so that he could more easily keep watch over Id.
